Anton, the pilot, took me on a river flight safari upstream of the falls, overhead a myriad of islands and passing right by the hotel, saw buffalo, giraffe, rhino, zebra, hippo and crocodiles, plus a whole menu of birds, including storks, egrets, several herons species (with a special low level flight past a Goliath heron), sacred and hadada ibis, plovers, lapwings, jacanas and cormorants.
