The falls take a morning. The Zambezi takes the rest.
Which cruise catches the good light, what a flight over the gorge costs, and whether Devil’s Pool is open the week you land. Reviews of every tour you can book at Victoria Falls.
The flight, the dinner deck, the pool at the lip, the Botswana day.
Four bookings that shape a first Victoria Falls trip, what each one costs, and what the people who took them say.
01From the airVictoria Falls: Helicopter Tour with Hotel PickupA short flight over the full curtain and the zigzag gorges below it. Morning slots beat the afternoon haze.
02The dinner deckDinner Cruise on the Zambezi RiverThree courses on the upper Zambezi while the sun drops behind the treeline. Hippos surface alongside.
03At the lipFrom Victoria Falls: Livingstone Island Tour & Devils PoolSwim out to the edge of the main falls from Livingstone Island. Low-water season only, roughly August to December.
04The Botswana dayVictoria Falls: Chobe National Park Day Trip with LunchAcross the border to Chobe for a game drive and a river cruise, with lunch on the water and elephants all but guaranteed.
On foot, at the lip, from the air, or down in the gorge.
The curtain is over a mile wide and the rainforest path faces it head-on. Pick how close you want to get: a guided walk in the spray, the island at the very edge, a flight above the whole thing, or grade-five water below the bridge.
Sundowners on the Zambezi are the town’s second religion.
Above the falls the river runs broad, flat and busy with game. Boats go out at sunrise for the birds, at midday for lunch, and in numbers at five for the sundowner run. Book the sunset slot first; it is the one that fills.
High water hides the falls. Low water opens them.
The Zambezi peaks around April, when half a billion litres a minute go over the edge and the spray can white out the view from the path; flights see the flood best. By September the river is low: Devil’s Pool opens, the whole gorge runs for rafting, and the far cataracts thin toward November. Match the booking to the month and nobody goes home disappointed.
A bridge built for a railway, a flight named by a missionary, a stone city that named a country.
Every big waterfall has viewpoints. A 1905 steel arch you can dive off, a flight path christened in 1855, and eleven-metre walls raised without a drop of mortar belong to this trip alone.

Victoria Falls Bridge
Cecil Rhodes asked for the railway to run close enough for spray to wet the carriages, and the bridge opened in 1905 exactly there. It now carries a 111-metre bungee, a gorge swing and a zip line, with a border post at either end and the Zambezi a very long way down.

The Flight of Angels
David Livingstone wrote in 1855 that scenes this lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight, and the phrase has named every aircraft here since. Helicopters circle the full curtain; microlights fly it open to the air, with the pilot’s shoulder for a windscreen.

Great Zimbabwe & the Matobo Hills
The medieval city of Great Zimbabwe raised its granite walls without mortar, ran a gold trade that reached China, and gave the modern country its name. The Matobo Hills nearby hold San rock art, tracked white rhino, and the hilltop grave Rhodes chose at World’s View.

Vic Falls prices run from sundowner money to helicopter money.
Every reviewed tour, grouped by the hit to your card. The town trades in US dollars, and the good news sits at the river end of the list.
Four Vic Falls bookings that keep their own calendar.
Most of this town can be arranged from the hotel desk the night before. Not these four: they run on river levels, fixed tables and first-light slots that fill from the far side of the world.
- 01From Victoria Falls: Livingstone Island Tour & Devils PoolThe island tours run only at low water, roughly August to December, and the breakfast sittings go first.
- 02Zambezi River Class IV-V White-Water Rafting from Victoria FallsThe full run below the falls needs a low river. In high-water months the trip starts further down the gorge and the biggest rapids close.
- 03Boma Dinner and Drum ShowOne venue, fixed tables, and drummers who start whether you are seated or not. Peak-season nights are gone days out.
- 04Helicopter Scenic Flight over Victoria Falls 12-13 minutes FlightFlights sell by the slot, and mornings go first: the light is cleaner and the wind stays down.
